Helium
Comedy, a stand-up comedy club hailing from Philadelphia, will open their first
west coast venue in Portland this summer. The comedy outfit will convert the
9,347 square foot second floor Chelsea ballroom space at 900 SE Hawthorne into
a state of the art comedy club. This beautiful historic building, also known as
Red Men Hall, was constructed in 1923 and underwent extensive renovations in
2005 when it was purchased by current owner/developer Progressive Development.
Helium is a dedicated comedy club showcasing local and national talent, and will host shows 5 nights a week with a full food and drink
menu for patrons. Marc Grossman, Helium’s owner, opened his Philadelphia club in
2005 and has turned a profit ever since. He has done his research and expects
to duplicate Helium’s success here. “I can’t wait
to show the city what Helium can bring to Portland,” says Grossman. “I know
this town is ready for it.”
