Multnomah County Commissioners are considering preliminary site locations tomorrow to relocate the new Multnomah County Courthouse as reported by The Oregonian.
How the county can even consider ruining a thriving, 40 year plus Portland institution and community gathering spot such as the V.Q. is wrong. Why is the county even considering that option when there is a second alternative location that is currently a surface parking lot less than two blocks south at SW 2st & Columbia? The cost alone to re-engineer and reconstruct the west end of The Hawthorne Bridge and then to build an irregular "L" shaped courthouse around the historic Jefferson Station Building will be much more costly than to purchase the surface parking lot at SW 2nd & Columbia.
The meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, December 16th, 10:00am @ Multnomah County Headquarters. It is too bad that the public has not been brought fully into this selection process...
