'Feast' on This!

The Feast Portland lineup continues its incredible momentum with the addition of more celebrated chefs. This week news  trickled out that Paris chef Inaki Aizpitarte, Top Chef Season 9 Winner Paul Qui, and California Cuisine master Daniel Patterson will join us in Portland to honor all that Oregon has to offer and fight for the cause of ending childhood hunger in our great state.

The list of local, national and international chefs is staggering. The list, seen here, is a who's who of the Culinary world. Foodies and wanna be foodies alike will surely recognize many of the names and faces (Top Chef/Food Network fans out there?) on the list. The table is set for Feast Portland on September 20 - 23rd, get your tickets now!

SW 1st Avenue is going Postal!

The United States Post Office has leased 9,364 SF of ground floor space at the beautiful new American Assets Trust building at SW First & Main.

The U.S. Postal Service will close and downsize  their current existing PSU University Station Office location.  The new postal branch is scheduled to be open for business at their new location by mid-December 2012.

No word yet in regards to what the future holds for redevelopment of their current site at 1505 SW Sixth Ave, just one block from Portland State's campus.

James Beard Public Market Deal Finally Set to Close

Several years after first proposal, the James Beard Public Market and its partner, Melvin Mark Development Co. were awarded a three acre site, located in the western end of the Morrison Bridgehead. The site will act as a year-round farmers market and will offer a good mix of downtown location with great access to public transportation. Multnomah County commissioners voted last Thursday 4-0 to approve the $10.4 million deal. Plans to open the market are set for 2016. Read more about it here.

PNCA's Expanding Campus to Anchor the North Park Blocks

Early May, Urban Works blogged on two developments heating up the North Park Blocks (read our post here), including The Lemon Hotel retail project and PNCA's ArtHouse resident hall.

Coinciding nicely with PNCA's ArtHouse redevelopment, the College has purchased the 511 Federal Building with plans to consolidate most of its facilities to one larger more centrally located campus, with the intent to provide a similar north anchor to the park blocks that PSU captures to the south. The 134,000 SF building will host the majority of the school's curriculum, as well as studios, gallery space, and a theater.  Allied Works Architecture will break ground in January 2013 and the former U.S. Post Office will reemerge as PNCA's Arlene & Harold Schnitzer Center for Art and Design in August 2014. The city-owned vacant property to the west of the building is also anticipated to be developed into a park.

Pearl Marriott Hotel - Design Approved!

Williams & Dame Development has purchased land from Hoyt Street Properties to get a six-story, 225-room Marriott Hotel built on a long-vacant lot that HSP was never able to get developed (remember those W Hotel and Cinetopia rumors?).  The planned 170,000 square foot hotel at the Northeast corner of NW 9th Ave. and Marshall Street gained unanimous Design Commission approval last week.

Williams and Dame Development said they plan on breaking ground in January 2013.  See Lee Fehrenbacher's article Urban to the Core in the DJC for SERA Architects' beautiful design.  

 

Riverplace welcomes Lil Cooperstown!

It’s official:  Lil Cooperstown has leased the former Stanfords restaurant space at Riverplace!

Owners Mark Handris and Ken Arrigotti plan to open their fifth location in early September.  Lil Cooperstown is a locally owned family friendly restaurant and pub, filled with sports memorabilia and, of course, when a good game is on...sports fans!
 
Lil Cooperstown offers a large menu of all-American fare, from their requisite chicken wings and Hall of Fame nachos to start, to entrées that include Ranger Ray’s Alaskan Halibut Fish and Chips, pastas and steaks. The beer selection is extensive and the sporty environment includes televisions throughout for the ultimate viewing experience!
