It appears that Clayton Hering's Trader Vic franchise is moving into the design review process in The Pearl District. The international restaurant chain has settled on the former Manzana then ex-Palamino restaurant location at NW 12th & Glisan. The franchisee has requested several modifications to the exterior of the building that require public design review via the city . Of significant design note; five 10' tall tiki statues with natural gas torch bowls on their heads will ring the subject building. Neighbors will have 120 days to comment on the proposed changes to the building and the huge flamed TIKIS.
I can almost taste my Mai Tai now....
Man I've missed my two scorpion bowl dinners and then driving up Vista in my volvo. Bring it on Clayton.

Risky site for a Trader Vic's. A hotel site downtown would make more sense. I can't see my Pearl District neighbors heading over to Trader Vic's for a quick poo poo platter. That space has a restaurant curse on it. National restaurant chains just don't get Portland.

Isn't Clayton Hering a commercial real estate guy at NBS? Wow, if he thinks real estate is tough wait until he starts trying to run and pay for a restaurant. A BIG restaurant. Ouch!

About a million years ago, there was a Trader Vic's in the Benson. Is this the same? Didn't the chain go bankrupt?
