New construction is coming to the Interstate Avenue corridor! Located at the corner of N Interstate and N Killingsworth, Killingsworth Station will break ground this year and bring 57 condos over ground floor retail space to the area. The site is a critical link between the burgeoning N Killingsworth District that Saraveza’s, Red E Coffee and Enjoji Café call home and Overlook Village where Lucky Lab recently moved in. We look forward to bringing new business to Interstate Avenue.
On Nov. 2 Measure 74 will give Oregonians the opportunity to decide whether or not nonprofit medical marijuana retailers can open for business. The closer we get to this date, the more calls we receive from potential retailers and inquiring Landlords and business owners who are sharing their mixed feelings about the new "cafe" concept. There's no precedent for it. We don't know what to expect. It will be interesting to see how this new concept will affect Portland retail. If this passes, medical marijuana dispensaries may be the new retail trend for 2011.
The Buckman Neighborhood is already all over this place, but word is still getting out to the rest of us about Roost, a small neighborhood restaurant at 1403 SE Belmont serving dinner and weekend brunch. Chef/Owner Megan Henzel has returned to her native Portland after years as a personal celebrity chef in New York and LA. "I'm so happy to be home," says Henzel. "I just wanted to have a simple place with a classic, straightforward menu. We're grateful that the neighborhood has received us so well - they appreciate that we aren't feeding them gimmicks or an education with their meal." Sample the corn and sharp cheddar fritters with avocado fries, or the bacon chop with buttermilk mashed potatoes, braised escarole and mustard butter. Or stop in for brunch and wash down corn cakes topped with two fried eggs, smoked trout , tomato and arugula with a greyhound mimosa. Yum.
